Ponds and lakes are wet all year round.
There are lots of different species in Ponds and lakes.
A lake is not part of a ocean. A pond is much smaller than a
lake. Most ponds are man-made but a lake is natural.

Many ponds are seasonal, lasting just a couple of months (such as sessile pools) while lakes may exist for hundreds of years or more. Ponds and lakes may have limited species diversity since they are often isolated from one another and from other water sources like rivers and oceans. Lakes and ponds are divided into three different zones which are usually determined by depth and distance from the shoreline.

Most plankton can only be seen with a microscope, although some aquatic animals are considered plankton to. Because of the way they float through the water. Consumers are organisms that eat other organisms. There are three types of consumers: Herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. Herbivores, like beavers or ducks, eat only plants. Carnivores, like frogs, eat other animals. Omnivores, like humans or bears, eat both plants and animals.

Producers, like large plants, pond slime, and algae, make their own food using photosynthesis. They are eaten by consumers and decomposers.

Decomposers, like bacteria and fungi, eat dead plants and animals that sink from the surface or are already near them. They decompose, or break down, their food.
